Breast lift (Mastopexy)
Breast lift surgery in California and Florida (Beverly hills, Newport beach, Orange County, Miami)
Breast lift surgery, also known as mastopexy, is the ideal option for women with sagging breasts or who lose breast skin because of factors like aging, pregnancy, and weight loss. As you age, especially if you have had one or more children, your breasts will gradually begin to sag. This can make you feel very insecure and affect how you feel about your femininity. While no one can escape the natural effects of aging, there is nothing wrong with wanting to look your best at any age. Plastic surgery can help accomplish this goal.
What is a breast lift?
Breast lift surgery repositions the breasts and nipples higher on the chest. The procedure can also be combined with breast implants for patients who have lost breast volume as well, which is also a common side effect of aging.

Who is a candidate for breast lift?
Women who have saggy, droopy breast with lots of excess skin may be candidates for a breast lifts. Thus, good candidates for a breast lift may have breasts that are the size they desire, but that have begun to sag or droop downwards. These breasts might have lost their firmness and/or have nipples and areolas that point downwards. Ideal candidates are in good health with no illnesses that would negatively affect the body’s healing after the procedure or add any extra risks during the procedure. Finally, potential patients need to have realistic expectations for the procedure and the possible results it will produce.
If you are planning on having children, it is best to wait to undergo the procedure, as breastfeeding contributes to sagging. Likewise, if you are overweight, it is best to achieve your ideal weight prior to correcting the position of your breasts. The first step in determining whether this procedure is right for you is to meet with your plastic surgeon and undergo an exam to determine the right procedure to shape your breast. The plastic surgeon will evaluate your candidacy and educate you on all the different aspects of breast lift surgery.
You must also be generally healthy and have realistic expectations. Conducting research, viewing before and after photos, and talking to your plastic surgen will help you get a better idea of what to expect.
What are the different techniques of breast lift?
Plastic surgeons perform a number of different techniques, which differ by the incision pattern.
The most common include:
- The anchor lift, which involves three incisions: one around the areola, one that runs from the areola down the breast to the crease, and the final incision that runs along the bottom of the breast.
- The lollipop lift, which is similar to the anchor lift, but does not include the incision along the breast crease.
- The crescent lift, which involves one small incision along the upper half of the areola and is only appropriate for patients with mild ptosis (sagging).
- The donut lift, which involves a circular incision around the areola. This technique is also more suitable for patients with mild to moderate sagging

You should pick a board certified plastic surgeon that has experience with breast lifts and done many of them. What is the recovery after a breast lift?
The recovery generally lasts about six weeks. However, you will be able to return to work within one week, as long as you do not do any heavy lifting or perform any strenuous physical activities. Exercise and other strenuous activities will need to be avoided for around four to six weeks. There will be some swelling and bruising around the breast that will dissipate over the course of your breast lift recovery.
The plastic surgeon will provide you with detailed post-operative instructions, as well as any medication you will need to take for pain and to prevent infection. You may experience a temporary loss of sensation, which is normal and returns over time. The plastic surgeon will monitor your recovery closely and see you on a regular basis to ensure you are healing as planned.
